NHSX are launching an NHS AI Lab in partnership with the Accelerated Access Collaborative. Health Secretary Matt Hancock has confirmed that £250m will be spent on boosting the role of AI within the health service, telling BBC news that the AI lab will be used to “search for new insights that are going to save lives” and identify new diagnostic tools. It will bring together academics, doctors and other experts on AI.
Commenting on the announcement, Simon Stevens said, “in the first instance it should help personalise NHS screening and treatments for cancer, eye disease and a range of other conditions, as well as freeing up staff time.”
