The 2025 Spending Review outlines a significant commitment to the NHS, with a record increase of £29 billion in annual day-to-day funding. Highlights from the announcement include:

  • A planned investment of up to £10 billion in technology and digital transformation, raising the NHS technology budget by 50 percent. This is intended to expand the capabilities of the NHS App and give patients greater autonomy over their care.

  • Ongoing support for public health, with at least £80 million each year dedicated to tobacco cessation programmes as part of a broader focus on prevention.

  • Additional funding to support the training of thousands more GPs, which will help to deliver millions more appointments and ensure care is delivered closer to home.

These measures are set to underpin the upcoming 10-Year Health Plan and support the Government’s goal for 92 percent of patients to start consultant-led treatment within 18 weeks of referral.

The review also introduced measures to drive digital innovation across the public sector, most notably a £3.25 billion Transformation Fund to support the reform of public services.
